Victor Valley College: Opportunities, Financial Aid, and Our Family's Experience
If you're considering Victor Valley College and wondering whether it's worth it, I wanted to share our family's personal experience. This isn't a perfect review, and every student's experience will be different, but if you're a parent or student looking for affordable education options in the High Desert, this information may help.
Touring Victor Valley College
Victor Valley College is a community college located in Victorville, California, serving students throughout the High Desert region. The campus includes classrooms, a library, student services, athletic facilities, and outdoor spaces that make it a comfortable place to learn and grow.
For many families, Victor Valley College can be an excellent starting point before transferring to a university or entering the workforce through one of the many career and technical education programs offered on campus.
Financial Aid Can Open Doors
One of the biggest lessons we learned is that many students qualify for assistance they never knew existed.
If you're a student or parent, don't assume college is out of reach because of finances. Make time to visit the Financial Aid Office, ask questions, and learn about the programs available.
There are grants, fee assistance programs, student support services, and other resources that may significantly reduce the cost of attending college.
Our Experience Wasn't Perfect
I want to be honest. Our experience wasn't always smooth.
At times, it felt overwhelming. Different departments sometimes provided different information, and meeting with counselors can be challenging when appointments are limited to 30 min only. We often found ourselves asking the same questions multiple times just to make sure we understood the process.
If you're attending Victor Valley College, my advice is simple:
Ask questions.
Take notes.
Follow up.
Don't be afraid to return and ask again.
Persistence makes a huge difference.
The EOPS Program Made a Big Difference
One program that had a major impact on our family was EOPS (Extended Opportunity Programs and Services).
If your family meets income qualifications, I strongly encourage you to ask whether you qualify.
Through EOPS, my daughter received support and resources that helped make college more manageable. Some of the assistance included:
Student store credit for supplies
Help with educational expenses
Graduation support
Access to additional student resources and guidance
These benefits helped reduce the financial burden and allowed her to focus more on her education.
Many families walk right past the EOPS office without realizing how much support may be available. If you're visiting campus, take the time to stop by and learn more.
Starting Rocky and Finishing Strong
Like many students, my daughter faced challenges during her college journey.
There were moments of uncertainty, paperwork, deadlines, and plenty of questions along the way. But she stayed committed, continued asking for help when she needed it, and ultimately reached graduation.
As a parent, that's what mattered most.
She may not have had a perfect college experience, but she finished strong.
And that's something we're incredibly proud of.
Why Victor Valley College May Be Worth Considering
Victor Valley College can be a great option for:
High school graduates
First-generation college students
Students planning to transfer to a university
Career-focused students
Families looking for affordable education options
The key is getting involved, learning about available resources, and building relationships with staff members who can help guide you through the process.
Examples of Support Our Family Received
One of the reasons I wanted to share our experience is because many families don't realize the resources that may be available to students.
Through programs and assistance available at the college during my daughter's time as a student, she received support that helped reduce the financial burden of attending school.
Some of the assistance she received included:
✔ Walmart gift cards valued at approximately $100 per semester to help with school-related expenses.
✔ Approximately $150 in student store credit that could be used for notebooks, backpacks, supplies, and other educational needs.
✔ Assistance with graduation expenses, including support for her cap and gown, which saved our family about $85.
✔ Access to the EOPS (Extended Opportunity Programs and Services) program, which provided additional resources and student support.
✔ A graduation grant of approximately $1,495 through a student support program. (This was only our experience you need to meet the income)
✔ During the COVID period, grants and educational assistance helped cover the cost of her classes, allowing her to complete her education with little to no out-of-pocket tuition expenses.
Every student's situation is different, and programs can change over time, but this experience taught us the importance of asking questions, meeting with Financial Aid, and exploring every resource available on campus.
If you're considering Victor Valley College, don't assume you won't qualify for assistance. Take the time to visit Financial Aid, ask about EOPS and other student support programs, and learn what opportunities may be available for your specific situation.
Final Thoughts
If you're thinking about attending Victor Valley College, my recommendation is simple: walk in, ask questions, and explore your options.
You may discover programs, grants, and resources that can make a significant difference in your educational journey.
Our family's experience wasn't perfect, but the opportunities and support available helped my daughter reach her goal and graduate.
For that, we're grateful.
Congratulations to all the students working toward their future, and especially to those who continue pushing forward even when the journey isn't easy.

We’re here at Victor Valley College in the High Desert.
If you know, you know—this is graduation season, and we just wanted to give you a quick campus tour while we’re out here celebrating a family member who is graduating.
A lot of students come here for support, and VVC really does offer a lot of resources—financial aid, counseling, transfer programs, and so much more.
So today, we’re just going to walk the campus and show you what it actually looks like in real life.
We’ll check out the student store, the library, the cafeteria area—Ram Café—and of course the lake area with the ducks and even turtles. It’s honestly one of the most unique parts of this campus.
And we’re also going to show you the newer upgrades, including the football stadium and sports facilities.
It is a hot day here in the High Desert today, but it’s still a perfect time to be out here on campus.
What really stands out is how big this campus actually is. A lot of people don’t realize how many programs they offer here—nursing, trade programs, transfer degrees, sports programs, online classes, counseling, EOPS, and financial aid support.
Everything is kind of spread out between the buildings, and once you walk it, you realize how much is actually here.
Over here you’ve got the lake area with ducks just walking around like they own the place. People even feed them from the student store—it’s honestly part of the campus experience.
You’ll also find classrooms throughout the campus, and right between some of these areas is the theater, which a lot of students don’t even notice at first.
Up front, you have financial aid, business services, counseling, and student support programs. There’s a lot going on here behind the scenes to help students succeed.
Now one thing I want to be honest about from our personal experience…
When we first moved here, my daughter had just graduated high school and was actually planning to leave the area for college.
But due to family health situations, she decided to stay local and attend Victor Valley College instead.
And honestly—looking back—it ended up being a blessing for our family.
There was also support through grants and programs around that time, especially during COVID, that helped students stay enrolled and complete classes online, which made a huge difference for us.
Now, I do want to be honest—like any college experience, it wasn’t always perfect.
Sometimes there was confusion between departments, especially with financial aid and program requirements. You’d hear one thing from one office and something different from another.
So we learned quickly—you really have to advocate for yourself, ask questions, follow up, and stay on top of deadlines.
That’s something I wish more students knew going in.
But at the same time, I do want to highlight this:
Victor Valley College does offer a lot of opportunities, especially for students who are staying local or trying to save money.
If you’re a lower-income student or a first-generation college student, definitely go talk to financial aid. There are grants, programs, and resources that can help you get through school without massive debt.
Community college can truly be a smart steppingstone—two years here can save you thousands before transferring to a university.
And now with the newer upgrades—you’ve got the brand-new football stadium, updated sports fields, and improved campus facilities.
It really shows how much the college has grown over the years.
So if you’re into sports, academics, or just looking for a place to start your education, there are definitely opportunities here at Victor Valley College.
To the students graduating—congratulations.
You made it through a big chapter, especially with everything going on in the world these last few years. Whether you’re transferring, graduating, or moving on to your next step, keep going.
And for parents watching this, I know how fast it goes—from high school graduation to college graduation—it all happens so quickly.
If you’ve attended Victor Valley College, let us know your experience in the comments.
Did you like it?
Did you struggle with financial aid?
Did you transfer somewhere else after?
We’d love to hear your story.
